It is 9:15 on a Tuesday morning and the Pyrgos Training Centre is already alive. Music plays in the gym, the analysis room glows with clips from the weekend's match, and out on Pitch 1 the coaching staff are placing mannequins with surgical precision. This is where the PYRGOS AFC identity is built — one session at a time.
Head coach Leonidas Papas is famous for his attention to detail. Every training session is filmed from two angles. Every sprint is measured. Every pass in the rondo is counted. "Standards are not negotiable," says assistant coach Maria Kalogera. "The way we train on a rainy Tuesday is the way we play on matchday. There is no switch you can flip."
The playing identity is clear to anyone who has watched the team this season: win the ball high, attack quickly, and be brave in possession. Fitness coach Elena Vrettou's conditioning programme is the engine underneath it. The squad covers more high-intensity distance than any side in the league.
But identity is about more than tactics. Youngsters like Michalis Drakos and Leandros Vitalis train alongside experienced leaders like Nikos Stavrou and Thanos Galanis. The message from the captain is simple: "When you wear this badge, you give everything. The supporters work all week to watch us play. We owe them our maximum, always."
As the session winds down, Papas gathers the squad in the centre circle. The huddle is tight and the words are few. Tomorrow, they go again. That is the PYRGOS way.
